What colour temperature should I use in a bedroom?

2700K to 3000K. That is the warm, relaxed light of a traditional bulb and it suits bedrooms and living rooms. Keep 4000K for a study or kitchen worktop where you need to see detail. Our room-by-room guide has the full list. Warm vs cool white, room by room →

How many downlights does my living room need?

It depends on the room size, ceiling height, finishes and the fitting you choose, so there is no single number. Our free Lighting Design Studio calculates it: enter the room, pick a fitting, and it gives you the count, the lux on the floor, the uniformity and a false-colour plan. I want 40 m of LED strip in my living room. What else do I need?

Use 24V strip from one batch so the colour matches, a driver sized at watts per metre times length plus headroom, and power fed from both ends on long runs: on a measured 5 m strip, 12V lost 15.1% of its voltage end to end, 24V lost 5.4%. Add aluminium profiles with a diffuser and a dimmable driver or controller that matches your lighting control. The full shopping list, with UAE prices →

My LED lights flicker or buzz when I dim them. Why?

Usually the dimmer, not the bulb. Leading-edge dimmers were made for older inductive loads; LED loads want a trailing-edge dimmer rated for LED, with a low minimum load. In the UAE, 400 W rotary trailing-edge dimmers run from about AED 380 to 890. Ask Kelvin to check a specific dimmer and bulb pairing. Why LED dimmers flicker →

Is DALI or KNX better for dimming a villa?

They are not rivals. DALI is a protocol that addresses each fitting's driver, so it gives fixture-level dimming and tunable white. KNX is a building-wide bus for switches, scenes, AC and blinds. Most villas that use both link them with a DALI/KNX gateway: DALI at the fittings, KNX as the backbone. KNX vs Zigbee vs Wi-Fi vs Matter →

Can I connect my existing Daikin VRF to a smart home?

Yes, through a Daikin-specific gateway, not a generic thermostat. VRF indoor units use their own digital control, so a consumer thermostat cannot command them. A Daikin VRV/Sky gateway or a KNX VRF interface connects the indoor units to your smart-home system. Tell Kelvin your indoor-unit model and platform and it will name the interface class you need. HVAC and AC control →

Do I need a hub for Zigbee or Thread devices?

Zigbee and Bluetooth devices need a hub to reach your phone or voice assistant. Thread devices need a border router, which a HomePod mini, an Apple TV 4K, an Echo Show or an Aqara Hub M3 provides. Wi-Fi devices connect on their own. Some products double as a hub, so ask Kelvin before you buy a separate one. Protocols, hubs and compatibility →

What are the CCTV rules in Dubai?

Cameras in Dubai must be SIRA-compliant: approved equipment installed by a licensed company, colour cameras, 1080p Full HD as the minimum. Audio recording is prohibited under the 2026 rules unless you have a written exemption, which affects video doorbells and two-way cameras. General information, not legal advice.
